Takatsuki Trio Quartett

Takatsuki is a sleeper town between Kyoto and Osaka. It is neither of these cities, but someting in between. Takatsuki Trio Quartett is a band with a regular trio of Rieko Okuda (piano, voice, viola), Antti Virtaranta (Bass) and Joshua Weitzel (guitar, Shamisen), but they exclusively perform as a quartett with an ever-changeing fourth member. It is not really a trio and not really a quartet, but a trio quartet. The band has received several grants, such as a stipend for ensembles and bands from Musikfonds, and a touring grant from the Berlin Senate. The band further organises a concert series in Berlin every year since 2020.
They have released three CDs which received critical acclaim (Downbeat, New York City Jazz Record, bbc radio 3).
